The guard lady isn't very successful to get the school class behind the yellow line.
This is our next surprise: A shinkansen 500 series arrives as our Kodama train.
The 500 series shinkansen only has 4 seats across, not 5 like the 700 series.
Arriving at Shin-Iwakuni station.
Goodbye to our short trip in the 500 series Shinkansen.
The conductor checks the train before it leaves the station.
And then the train leaves for the remaining trip.
A "beautiful" example of 60's or 70's architecture.
We're already in the bus to the Kintai bridge.
A brief summary on the Kintai bridge.
And this is the Kintai bridge.
Many school classes are visiting the bridge and castle.
This is a nice choice of ice cream flavors.
A view of Iwakuni from the top station of the ropeway.
Old dry moat of the castle.
This is the old foundation of the castle.
And this is the Iwakuni castle.
A nice samurai armor is exhibited at the castle.
View of Iwakuni from the castle.
Antje enjoys the views.
Those roof top fishes are larger than one would think.
Some blue patches of sky are finally available today as well.
A miniature park in front of the castle.
This tree has some interesting bark.
We're waiting for the downwards ropeway at the top station.
This is just a small gondola.
A small shrine is also located in the vicinity.
Tori marking the shrine entrance.
The entrance is also guarded by a lion, the fall colored trees are much more obvious though.
Some school uniforms seem to have pretty short skirts.
Once more the nice maple tree.
There's fountain behind the nice tree.
Back to the park at the Kintai bridge.
A real nice red is featured by that tree.
Christian is hunting for good shots with his camera.
Finally we deserve a tasty ice cream.
A view of the bridge from the other side of the river.
The arches of the bridge are pretty impressive.
These are the boats of the kormorane fishermen.
A view of the bridge's construction.
Walking back over the bridge to Iwakuni.
Looks like a wedding in kimono posing at the bridge.
A small shopping and food area near the bridge.
Even the cookie boxes are shaped like the bridge arches.
An alley leads into the city of Iwakuni.
Bus stop for the Kintai bridge.
And another 500 series for our onward journey.
The shinkansen has stopped perfectly aligned with the door markings as always.
Short transfer to a faster Hikari train at Shin-Iwakuni.
Busy station at Yamaguchi.
Yamaguchi Grand Hotel, not many more hotels to be seen, though.
We're continuing our journey in a Hikari Railstar.
We're connecting at Hakata station to the limited express to Nagasaki.
Hakata station sign.
The seats look pretty close to a leopard skin.
